Judy Hines, PresidentOn Judy Hines’ sun porch over 31 years ago, a mission was developed and initiated that continues to positively impact the healthcare industry. Hines—one of the first personalized managed healthcare companies—was founded in 1987 and is now a nationwide leader.

Based on the truth that consumer education and patient empowerment encourage a healthier life, “The benefit to you is continually reflected in quality of care, cost containment and patient satisfaction,“ says Judy. “It is rewarding to know that our original goals created on that sun porch long ago remain strong, innovative and effective.”

Judy Hines, RN, BSN, MBA

Judy has been involved with on-site utilization management since 1974. In 1987, she founded Hines & Associates, Inc. "on her sun porch," as she is fond of reminding customers and employees.

Today, the company has expanded to over 20 locations nationwide. Her philosophy of hard cost savings vs. soft savings and increased consumer education in health care decision-making have become industry standards -- and have led Hines to the forefront of the cost containment field.

She is past president of the Chicago Claim Association and past general chairperson of the Midwest Claim Conference. Judy earned her bachelor's degree in nursing from Northern Illinois University and her master's degree in business from Northwestern University.

 

Executive Vice President / Chief Operating Officer

Lynn Breitbach, RN, BSN, CCM

Lynn has over 25 years of experience in managed care, including case management, utilization management and disease management, and was the Vice President of Operations for Hines for several years. She has been employed by Hines since 1988.

Lynn's past experiences include home health care and community nursing as an instructor and nursing supervisor. She was responsible for utilization management and program evaluation in a multi-program health care agency. Lynn is past president of the County Society for Crippled Children and Adults and has served on the advisory board of Project Concern. Lynn earned her bachelor's degree in nursing from the University of Iowa and was the valedictorian of her graduating class.

 

Chief Information Officer

Derek Christopher, BSIT, CCSA

Derek has worked in the information technology field for more than 24 years at various levels in the private and public sector, primarily focusing on network security and administration. He has been employed by Hines since 2004. Under Derek’s management, Hines has developed secure and customized health care information, including online reporting and file exchange for customers, as well as providing secure access to remote users. Derek is responsible for the overall IT strategic direction and operations of Hines, including establishing and implementing policies and standards that govern the planning, acquisition, management, delivery and security of all IT assets.

Derek earned his bachelor’s degree in information technology from Colorado Technical University graduating Magna Cum Laude and has certifications from Six Sigma, CompTIA, and ecFirst.

 

Vice President of Care Management and Stop Loss Liasion

Sharon Cody, RN, BSN, CCM

Sharon directs the case management team and is responsible for specialty case management development and quality. She also oversees the Healthy Tomorrows Disease Management and Wellness programs. She has been employed at Hines since 1992 -- first as a case manager and then as a quality supervisor.

Sharon has several years of intensive care unit and neonatal ICU experience from the University of Iowa Medical Center and Mercy Hospital in Dubuque. She earned her bachelor's degree in nursing from the University of Iowa.

 

Director of Utilization Management and Compliance

Kate DePinto, RN-C, BSN

Kate's experience has been in medical-surgical nursing, in a wide variety of subspecialties, and she was a preceptor throughout her hospital career. She has been with Hines since 2002, starting in the Utilization Management Department and assuming the roles of trainer, QA supervisor, and team leader as well. In addition, Kate has experience as a peer review coordinator.

Kate earned her bachelor's degree in nursing from Northern Illinois University, graduating Cum Laude and was a member of the Honor Society of Nursing.

 

Director of Sales and Client Solutions

Anna Hansen, BA, CSFS

Anna has been with Hines since 2002. Her past experience includes over five years as a claim coordinator for a large group health insurance company and one year as a claim processor for a health and welfare fund. She also has over ten years of experience in research and management.

Anna earned her bachelor's degree in sociology from Northern Illinois University and her associate's degree in health care administration from College of DuPage. In addition, she has earned the designation of a Certified Self-Funding Specialist through HCAA and is also a member of the International Foundation of Employee Benefits.
